During yoga class, our instructor tells us to listen to our bodies. We are so busy at this time of the year we tend to ignore the messages our bodies send us until it is too late and we feel exhausted.
“The body is a marvelous machine that can adapt and change and grow. Learn to be at peace with your body. It’s the only tool you have to achieve your dreams.” – Jenny Hadfield and John Bingham, Running for Mortals
Running for Mortals is a great book for people who want to incorporate running into their busy schedules. I have been running for some time now and I am currently reading it. It has been refreshing to read some of the information I already knew. I have also found more reasons to enjoy and love being active.
Being aware of my body is as important as making art because if I don’t feel healthy, I can’t think clearly, work or create. I enjoy waking up early in the morning to go for a run or a yoga class. Sometimes the idea of a creative lifestyle is associated with eating bad food, drinking lots of alcohol, and using drugs.
Being active benefits everyone. When I began to run, I could only run for five minutes. After a couple of months, I was able to run for a longer period of time. And I began to connect all the components that are now part of a healthy lifestyle that works for me. We are all different and running may not be for everyone. But a healthy lifestyle gives everyone (creative or not) another reason to enjoy life!
Photo of beautiful orchid in the studio. After many years of having this plant, it is the first time it flowered. When I saw the beautiful flowers, I realized all those years of giving it the right amount of water, sun, plant food and a lot of encouraging words were worth it.
